“Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano” (S3 P2:E4)

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, my solo cycling adventure (S3 part 2) in Europe (Switzerland/Italy) came to an end. It was another fantastic cycling adventure, even though I was regularly startled by the pushy and impatient Italian drivers.

Cycling Adventure 15 (CA15) is my path of personal growth that started in 2021 (S1) and on which I will cycle 15 km in 40.075 years in different countries of all continents of the world. By getting to know the 'world' better, I want to 'grow' as a person and experience the impact of the rapidly changing digital world on people and their culture.

Some people wonder if I don't feel lonely when I'm alone on the bike for days on end. It took some getting used to at first, but now I think it's normal and I'm glad I have the time to think about my growth path. It is a special form of reflection that I can recommend to everyone, even if being alone makes you anxious at first.

“And where do you sleep during your bike rides?” people ask me over and over. Well, since my bike rides are usually long, I prefer to sleep in a B&B or small hotel that I try to book in advance. If that is not possible, I will look for a place to sleep on the spot. I estimate in advance whether that will work, otherwise I will take my tent with me.

Those who live quietly and relaxed live longer and in good health.

While I was resting on a bench in Aosta, Italy, an old man who lived in a flat next door slowly walked by. He addressed me in Italian and said “Piano, piano.”. That means "take it easy". Coincidences don't exist and before I left I talked to some colleagues and friends about how I would like to live life a little slower and less rushed. That old man has given me the signal that I must now work on it. And slowly doesn't mean I won't make progress, just that I will try to do it with more awareness of everything around me. There is a beautiful Italian proverb about “Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano” which means: “Those who live quietly and relaxed live longer and in good health.

I want to expressly thank everyone for the messages on my blog and through other channels. It gives me great pleasure.

My next cycling adventure (Season 4 – Part 1) will again take place outside the European continent. I will be happy to tell you more about it later.
