Ride 5/15 – Towards the beautiful Monasterio de Valvanera and then enjoy a rest day. (S1:E7)

At 6:00 am I was cycling towards Anguiano where I am staying in the Monasterio de Santa Maria de Valvanera.

Cycling Adventure 15 (CA15) is my path of personal growth with which I want to inspire people to develop their own path of personal growth in this rapidly changing world.

I am writing my report in this breathtaking place in the mountains. A real pearl and recommended to stay like so many other places that I have already seen and did not know their existence.

When I left Atienza, I really enjoyed the dawn and rising sun. It gives courage and desire to cycle, even if you still have muscle pain in your legs.

So early in the morning you come across many animals that would otherwise not easily show themselves. Although the cows also feel comfortable on the street during the day. They roam free with their bells around their necks. I have heard the same kind of birds chirping regularly on all my rides and wonder what kind it is. I have imprinted the sound in my head and when I get home I will whistle it to our team mate Eddy, who is passionate about birds.

The roads of this fifth stage were real gems. There is almost no traffic, they are in very good condition and located in a beautiful peaceful environment. What more does a person need to be happy. I gladly forgive Komoot if it occasionally makes me take unnecessary detours along a narrow road that I can hardly get to the top.

My legs hurt from all the climbing. At the Puerto de Montenegro at 1592 meters altitude I was not only rewarded by the beautiful view but I was also surprised to see a Belgian number plate. Monica and Erik are both retired and have said goodbye to their Belgian home base for an indefinite period and are moving around in their mobile home. We had a very pleasant chat about their lives. They are fond of the idea behind Cycling Adventure 15 (CA15). Wishing you lots of luck and fun Monica and Erik!

After 11 hours and 13 minutes on the bike I arrived at the monastery. I am extremely grateful to Paula, who works in the associated hotel. Since the nearest shop is 15 km away, she made sure that I could drink my chocolate milk! The muscles were happy with it.

I have already driven 900 km. Tomorrow is the sixth stage. After three rides, another rest day follows. I will make a summary report during my rest day.

Some numbers of the day:

  • Maximum temperature: 45° C
  • Average temperature: 29° C

  • 169 total number of km
  • 2430 vertical meters
  • 163 average wattage
  • 104 average heart rate
  • 20 km / h average speed
  • 59 km / h maximum speed
  • 8:20 am by bike
  • 11:13 am on the way

    Hi dear brother-in-law,
I follow your adventures through your blog and am always amazed by the staggering numbers about your day! I also read that you revive and appreciate the local encounters. If you “travel” alone, it has such an effect… Enjoy and courage, drink lots of chocolate milk!
